We are getting close to midsummer and, here in New York State, the youth baseball and softball seasons are winding down for thousands of families.
While many travel leagues are either starting up, or extending a few more weeks, the majority of the “house” leagues are almost done.
But as we get ready to transition seasons, there is a good reminder that I noticed at a ballpark in Western New York this season.

Watching youth sports is such a great experience, especially if you have a kid that is playing. Seeing them grow and learn is something that every parent loves. Many parents, at some point, dream of their kid going on to do big things in whatever sport that they might be in. But there are some who might overlook the best part of youth sports; the friendships, memories and fun that is being made!
It can be easy to get caught up in the competition of a game. But this sign is a great reminder to all who are about to watch a kid’s ballgame. In the end, it is just about having fun and learning.
I became a head coach for the first time this season in our son’s little league, and learned so many things along the way. Beyond being supportive, and having a positive attitude, my goal was to see each kid advance in some aspect of the game. The best part has been seeing every kid get a hit and get on base and contribute in some way! The pressure of competition will be a part of their game at some point, and rightfully so. There is nothing wrong with being competitive and wanting to win! However, as parents and coaches it’s good to remind them of the spirit of the game when they are just starting out.
