The city of Phoenix is applying for a $200,000 grant to ramp up enforcement efforts at the city’s 10 most dangerous intersections.

About $120,000 of the total will pay for equipment such as radar detectors and portable blood tests and drug tests, Assistant Police Chief Ed DeCastro told the city council on Wednesday. The other $80,000 will pay for the overtime it will take for the enforcement efforts.

The funding is through the National Safety Council’s Road to Zero Community Traffic Safety Grant Program. If awarded, it would fund the increased enforcement efforts for a year.
