Mayor Mamdani has moved into Gracie Mansion, and will spend his first night there Monday night with wife Rama Duwaji.

A moving truck sat in the driveway, with movers hard at work, as the mayor talked about his move.

“I want Gracie to continue to belong to the people, to be accessible to the people and be shaped by the people,” Mamdani said. “While there is no security deposit being put down today, Rama and I intend to strive each day to be the best possible custodians of this beautiful home, because we know that we are only its temporary occupants.”

Mamdani said he hoped to install “a few bidets into Gracie Mansion, that’s an aspirational hope, lets see if we can actually get it done.”

Mamdani said he is also getting allergy shots so they can eventually get a cat.

Former Mayor Eric Adams said he left Mamdani “a good note and I left a ghost there.”

Mamdani said he has not seen the note, but he looks forward to finding it.

“A lot of people keep talking about the ghosts, I haven’t yet met the ghosts or heard from the ghosts,” Mamdani said.

Mamdani will be hitting Bagel Shop on Third Avenue for now, but is open to suggestions.
