PHOENIX – In Phoenix last weekend, Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) met with Arizonans across the Valley and took questions from local media on the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement and a potential ICE crackdown in Phoenix.

Senator Gallego’s stops included a visit to the Visionary Boxing Club to meet with boxing legend David Benavidez and a visit to the Desert West Market in Avondale to speak with small business owners.

On the Airwaves

Arizona’s Family (Phoenix, AZ):

Senator Gallego: “When you’re using a weapon, you have to understand the full gravity of that.”

Reporter: “New cell phone video [of the Minnesota ICE shooting] was released this afternoon, that video was taken by the ICE agent himself. Gallego questioned why a trained immigration agent would shoot a video with his phone and hold a weapon at the same time. He said he hopes President Trump will rethink how these operations are carried out.”

Senator Gallego: “I wish the president would understand there is ways to have security, have immigration enforcement, have border security, without these type of methods they’re doing, which is scaring and bringing chaos to our neighborhoods.”

Fox 10 (Phoenix, AZ):

Reporter: “Senator Ruben Gallego held a media event today at his office in Phoenix. He calls the ICE crackdowns racial profiling and talked about what Democrats might do in response.”

Senator Gallego: “We’re going to look at the appropriations process — or any other process — to figure out how to pen these guys in to make sure they’re not abusing American citizens, that they’re focusing on criminals and not going after these people that just are here working and other than that have no criminal record. But it is a tough situation when this administration is more focused on causing harm than actually bringing security.”
