Suzanne Chambers
OBITUARY
Suzanne Chambers, lovingly known as Suzie, passed away peacefully at her home in Spring Valley on January 2, 2026, at the age of 78, after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving husband of 37 years, Bob Chambers, her daughter, Marsi and stepdaughter, Charlotte.
Born in Seattle, Washington, Suzie moved to San Diego in the 1970s with her first husband, Jim Garcia. Both attended San Diego State University, and Suzie often said, “Why would anyone leave San Diego?” It was here that she built a life rooted in service, leadership, and community.
In 1976, Suzie welcomed her daughter Marsi and began her career with the Otay Water District, where she became the first female executive and CFO. She retired in 2000.
Suzie was deeply involved in her community, volunteering at the Water Conservation Garden in Rancho San Diego, serving as a founding board member of the Rancho San Diego Friends of the Library, and participating in the Over the Hill Gang Car Club. In 2013, she and her daughters opened a Dream Dinners franchise in La Mesa, which they operated until 2025.
Above all, Suzie was kind and brave, devoted to helping others and passionate about building strong foundations for organizations so they could thrive long after she was gone.
Suzie is survived by her husband Bob Chambers; her daughters Marsi and Charlotte; her grandsons Nathan and Nicholas Haney; and her beloved sisters Terri, Kim, and Lynn. She will be remembered fondly and missed deeply.
