A Jacksonville man, Marcus Williams, 40, has been arrested on charges of second-degree forcible rape, according to court documents. The arrest follows allegations that Williams raped a person in Onslow County in October 2021. The documents state the victim was physically helpless at the time of the assault.

Williams, a registered sex offender since 2018, has a history of evading law enforcement. In 2017, he was apprehended by the United States Marshals Service after being on the run for over two months. He was wanted in Carteret County for first-degree rape and assault by strangulation after a 19-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted by Williams after giving him a ride home. Authorities found Williams hiding in a freezer at a Jacksonville convenience store before taking him into custody.

Williams was booked into the Onslow County Jail without bond on Tuesday, July 8.
