CHESTER, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — In coordination with “Kids Against Hunger United,” local families can find a food resource in their own backyard.
The nonprofit helped build a food pantry at Drexel Neumann Academy this past summer.
The pantry serves families only of the students at Drexel Neumann Academy.
Students from the school have formed the “Community Kindness Club” to support the pantry.
“My favorite part about this is that I know that when I leave here, I will have something that people can remember and something to pass off…It comes from a good place in your heart to think about others,” said 8th grade student, Tegan Williams-Gilbert.
The community from Villa Maria & Devon Prep are tasked with sustaining the pantry, showcasing how other kids can help kids in need.
“Kids Against Hunger United is a nonprofit organization with a mission to feed the hungry through food sharing, advocacy and community engagement,” said Founder & Executive Director, Heather Griesser LaPierre.
“It teaches leadership, empathy, kindness. Seeing that hunger could be your neighbor. Hunger doesn’t discriminate…Anybody could be struggling,” she continued.
The nonprofit has a large scale warehouse where they package meals to send out in the community.
This is the Philadelphia chapter of a larger organization: “Kids Against Hunger.”
