DECATUR, Miss. (WTOK) – The Newton County FFA is holding a Farmer’s Market tomorrow outside the Newton County CTE Center.
This market features locally grown and made products from the region, with baked goods, fresh fruits and veggies, and even milk from Urbo Crossing Dairy Farm.
Matthew Breland, Newton County’s FFA Advisor, said the market is run by the students, helping them with leadership and organizational skills, while also giving local vendors an outlet for their goods.
“We are not trying to just make money; we’re trying to give students the opportunity to gain skills. We work every day in the classroom and outside of the classroom and give students the opportunity to both learn how to work with both their mind and their body, and their skills. We hope that we can give them something that no matter where they go, whether that’s a field in agriculture or nursing or anything, they’re prepared to take care of themselves at home. They can grow their own food, produce it, and use not just skills in the classroom, but skills that will lead them through their whole life.”
The farmer’s market will be held tomorrow, Saturday June 21st, from 8am until noon. Vendor booths are 10 dollars up front.
The next farmer’s markets will be on July 10th and July 19th.
