More than four decades after it was due, a book has finally been returned to the La Mesa Library.

The book, “The Incredible Journey,” arrived anonymously in the mail with a note that read ‘Sorry this is so late.’

Records show the book was due on May 20th, 1980. In case you’re wondering what the fine is for a book that is 46 years overdue, there isn’t one.

On a social media post, the library wrote: “It’s never too late to return your library materials. The library no longer charges late fines that accrue daily for keeping County Library materials beyond their due date. Materials must still be returned to the library however, or the customer will be charged for the item and a processing fee.”
