TOWN OF LAFAYETTE, New York (WWNY/Gray News) – Bad weather is being blamed for a multi-vehicle crash that closed a portion of a busy interstate in New York on Thursday.
New York State Police said seven people were rushed to area hospitals after a chain-reaction crash occurred on Interstate 81 at about 2:20 p.m.
The weather-related crash involved more than 30 vehicles, including semis, and closed I-81 southbound near the town of LaFayette.
Four people were taken to Crouse Hospital; three others were taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
Police said two people sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Southbound travel lanes on I-81 were closed to all traffic for several hours.
