  • January 17, 2026

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Thanks to tips from the community, a woman was arrested for allegedly stabbing a 29-year-old man in downtown Phoenix last month.

The investigation began on Dec. 15, when officers were called to an area near Hance Park on Central Avenue, south of McDowell Road. Jaquail Dillard was found stabbed and was pronounced dead at the scene.

After seeking help from the public, Phoenix police received multiple tips as part of the investigation.

Forty-nine-year-old Lupe Teresa Perez, who was already in custody on an unrelated charge, was questioned about the deadly stabbing, police said. Police said Perez admitted to investigators that she stabbed Dillard.

She was booked into jail on second-degree murder, drug and probation violation charges.

It’s still unclear what led up to the stabbing.
