The crash happened on Crosby Freeway (Highway 90) near FM 2100 around 9:35 p.m.

The sheriff’s office said a man in his early 20s was driving east on the freeway when he swerved out of his lane for an unknown reason and hit the two construction workers.

The construction workers were both flown to area hospitals. One of them was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to HCSO. The other was reportedly in critical, but stable, condition.

Witnesses told investigators the driver stopped after the crash.
