A 79-year-old man has been arrested after Dallas Fire-Rescue officials say he assaulted a firefighter as fire crews responded to a grass fire at the home near Dallas’ Red Bird neighborhood.

Firefighters were called to a reported grass fire in front of a home in the 2100 block of Garden Crest Lane at about 5:37 a.m. Wednesday, according to a statement from Corbin Rubinson, a spokesperson for the Dallas Police Department.

When firefighters arrived, a firefighter was hit by a board thrown by a male resident, said Jason Evans, a fire department spokesperson. The resident followed this act up by going back inside and reemerging with a rifle, Evans said.

The man eventually barricaded himself in the home until police arrived, according to Rubinson.

As of Thursday, Harris is being held at the Dallas County jail on a $10,000 bond.
