OPINION — State Sen. Petersen comparing Charlie Kirk to one of the founding fathers is antithetic to what Kirk stood for. Kirk was a Christian Nationalist who believed in only one faith for this country.
Moreover, his divisive overtures and thinly veiled hate speech isn’t welcome. Kirk is not representative of all Arizonans, and naming the 202 would serve to further politically divide Arizona.
It would be more appropriate to commemorate the 202 under the name of Sen. John McCain for his valor in the military and for political independence. No to renaming the 202 for Charlie Kirk.
