Major airlines issue travel advisories for Houston airports, other cities ahead of weekend winter storm

HOUSTON – Multiple airlines have issued travel advisories for a large number of airports across the country where travel may be disrupted by this weekend’s winter storm.

Some airlines’ list includes airports in Houston.

Southwest Airlines

Houston’s Hobby Airport is among the impacted airports, but it is only one of many airports on the list.

The company says travel to these cities may be delayed, diverted, and/or canceled between Friday, Jan. 23 and Monday, Jan. 26:

  • Amarillo, TX (AMA)

  • Atlanta, GA (ATL)

  • Austin, TX (AUS)

  • Baltimore/Washington, MD (BWI)

  • Birmingham, AL (BHM)

  • Boston, MA (BOS)

  • Charleston, SC (CHS)

  • Charlotte, NC (CLT)

  • Cincinnati, OH (CVG)

  • Cleveland, OH (CLE)

  • Columbus, OH (CMH)

The company says due to the scale of the weather event and resulting flight disruptions, it may take additional time to rebook.

“Customers holding reservations to, from, or through the city(s) listed above on the corresponding date(s) who want to alter their travel plans may rebook or travel standby (within 14 days of their original date of travel between the original city pairs and in accordance with our accommodation procedures) without paying a change in airfare,” the company says.

United Airlines

United Airlines also released a list of airports they expect to have problems with travel over the weekend and into next week. Bush Intercontinental Airport is included on the list.

If your flight is affected, United says you can reschedule your trip and they will waive change fees and fare differences. But, your new flight must be a United flight departing between January 21, 2026 and January 29, 2026. Tickets must be in the same cabin and between the same cities as originally booked.

Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines also released a list, which includes Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport. Flights to these cities will have modification charges or fare differences waived through January 31.
