The driver of a Dodge sedan is suspected in a hit-and-run that killed a 72-year-old on Vernon Road on Jan. 10. Surveillance video appears to show it near the scene.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is hoping video evidence will help them track down the car and driver suspected in a hit-and-run crash that killed an elderly man in early January.
Surveillance video shared Saturday shows a dark-colored sedan near the scene in the Magnolia Gardens area on Jan. 10. It was previously described as a Dodge.
That day, officers responded to Vernon Road in reference to a crash just before 6 p.m. JSO said the 72-year-old victim was found in the roadway after being hit by an unknown vehicle, and the driver reportedly left the scene without rendering aid, calling for help or notifying police.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where officials said he later died.
Authorities are asking anyone with more information on the crash, the Dodge or the driver to contact JSO at 630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTIps@jaxsheriff.org. Anonymous tips can be made by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-8477.
