Re “Balboa Park museums say parking fees cut visits by 20% or more” (Jan. 21): Due to the poorly planned rollout of paid parking at Balboa Park and Mayor Gloria’s refusal to take responsibility for it, I’d like to see a citywide boycott of the park. Let’s see how much revenue paid parking generates if no one goes. Attendance is way down according to Wednesday’s article.

The ineptitude of the City Council and the mayor is stunning. Makes me wonder if they’ve heard the adage, “if you find yourself in a hole, quit digging.”  Ash Street, pension costs, the trash debacle, potholes, homelessness — the list goes on. What’s next, Todd?

I call upon the residents of San Diego County to quash the Balboa Park parking fee by boycotting it. Refuse to participate. And thereby block them from succeeding at this scheme to get yet more of your money.

Don’t boycott the park. Don’t boycott the museums and attractions. Just refuse to use any of the paid parking. Park just outside of the area and take the Route 7 bus or the applicable Rapid Ride in. Or call an Uber. Or park in the free lot and take the tram.

You will find this easier than you think — and you’ll be ready for summer when tourists make finding a parking spot a big hassle.
