The HBO Max crime thriller series “Duster” has been canceled after one season.

“While HBO Max will not be moving forward with a second season of ‘Duster,’ we are so grateful to have had the chance to work with the amazingly talented co-creators J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan, and our partners at Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television,” the streaming platform said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “We are tremendously proud of this series led by Josh Holloway and Rachel Hilson, and we thank them along with our cast and crew for their incredible collaboration and partnership.”

The show marked Abrams’ reunion with Holloway, who starred as James Sawyer on another series Abrams cocreated: “Lost.” In “Duster,” Holloway played getaway car driver Jim Ellis.

Season 1 of “Duster” followed Jim as he teamed up with the FBI’s first Black woman agent, Nina Hayes (Rachel Hilson), to take down crime boss Ezra Saxton (Keith David). Season 1 ended with a big reveal about a mysterious figure named Xavier, who had ties to Saxton.

The twist — which I won’t spoil here — would’ve made for an interesting second season, but now we’ll never see one. Fans took to social media to express their frustration with HBO Max’s decision to axe “Duster.”

“There’s no way in hell they really cancelled duster someones about to DIE,” one person wrote via X.

“Duster literally came out on may 15…its not even been 2 months yet! duster has been gaining on audience by word of mouth despite the lackluster promotion, its highly rated, the set designs and costumes are gorgeous and writing is good,” another viewer argued. “Hbo didnt even try ;/ this is sick.”

Holloway has yet to publicly address Duster’s cancelation. He told Entertainment Weekly in May that Abrams pitched him the show just as he began wondering if he’d ever “work again.” He recalled thinking the series’ concept was “phenomenal” from the start.

“[Abrams] just opened the conversation with, ‘You’re a fixer for the mafia in 1972.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, my God, my mind just blew up.’ There’s nothing like it on TV right now. It is like ‘Pulp Fiction’ meets ‘Starsky & Hutch,’” Holloway said.

Season 1 of of “Duster” is available to stream on HBO Max.
