According to the PPG’s Gerry Dulac, the Pittsburgh Steelers have requested to interview Jahri Evans to be their next assistant offensive line coach.
Evans was an interior offensive lineman in the NFL from 2006-2017. He was a four-time First-team All-Pro, one-time Second-team All-Pro, six-time Pro Bowler, and Super Bowl champion with the New Orleans Saints.
SOURCES: Former Saints G Jahri Evans is among the candidates to join Mike McCarthy’s staff with the Steelers. Evans, one of 15 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026, has been an offensive assistant and assistant OL coach the past three years in New Orleans.

UPDATE (9:21 PM): Per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Steelers are expected to hire Evans.

Evans also started his NFL coaching career with the Saints in 2022. While he began as a preseason coaching intern, he’s worked his way up the ranks since then and was named the Saints’ assistant offensive line coach for the 2025 season. With New Orleans, Evans has coached up former first round picks Taliese Fuaga and Kelvin Banks.
As Dulac notes, Evans is a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The 2026 class will be revealed Thursday, Feb. 5 during NFL Honors.
While Evans spent the majority of his career with the Saints, he spent his final season with Mike McCarthy’s Green Bay Packers. That makes it less surprising the Steelers want to interview him, despite his limited experience as a coach. McCarthy is known for bringing several of his former players on to his coaching staff, including showing interest in Scott Tolzien as the team’s offensive coordinator.
Now, Evans could become another of McCarthy’s former players to coach for him. The Steelers reportedly hired James Campen to be their offensive line coach. He’s a veteran that’s been coaching in the league since 2004.
Evans is a Pennsylvania native though from the Philadelphia side. He played college at D-II Bloomsburg before being drafted in the fourth round by the Saints in 2006.
The Steelers previously interviewed Cowboys assistant offensive line coach Ramon Chinyoung, and he appeared poised to join the team coaching the front five. However, Chinyoung will reportedly become the team’s running backs coach instead. That might make Evans the favorite to become the assistant offensive line coach.
McCarthy and the Steelers haven’t wasted time after interviewing candidates for openings. Evans’ experience as a player should allow him to better connect with Steelers linemen. They’ve got several young, talented players up front in C Zach Frazier, RG Mason McCormick, RT Troy Fautanu and others. It’s important that the Steelers make sure that they have the right coaches in place to continue developing them. Despite his inexperience, Evans could be a solid hire.
