La Jolla, Calif. – The CUI Golden Eagles went toe-to-toe with one of the nation’s elite programs on Thursday, battling No. 5 Hawai’i before falling 17–9 in a hard-fought nonconference matchup.

CUI’s offense was paced by a balanced scoring effort, with nine different Golden Eagles finding the back of the net. Anna Tyukasz and Claire Gluzman led the way with two goals apiece, each converting key opportunities against a rotating Hawai’i goalkeeper unit. Hannah Edwards, Emeline Smiley, Mia Hueston, Amber Lewis, and Madison Emerson also chipped in goals, showcasing the Golden Eagles’ ability to generate offense from multiple positions.

Defensively, Concordia faced constant pressure from Hawai’i’s attack, which capitalized on transition chances and outside shooting. Goalkeeper Jaden Soto logged the full 32 minutes in the cage, gaining valuable experience against one of the top offenses in the country and continuing to anchor the Golden Eagles’ defensive unit.

While the Rainbow Wahine pulled away with their depth and tempo, the Golden Eagles continued to compete through all four quarters, using the matchup as a measuring stick early in the season against elite national competition.

CUI will look to turn the page quickly, as the Golden Eagles are back in action Saturday, January 31st when they take on UC Santa Barbara. The matchup presents another strong test and an opportunity for Concordia to build on Thursday’s lessons and carry their balanced attack into the next contest.
