EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – The owner of two Connecticut medical practices faces fraud charges after authorities say he allowed an unlicensed employee to treat patients for years while billing Medicaid as if a doctor had provided the care.
Sultan Quraishi, 83, of Glastonbury, and Mohammad Siddiqui, 61, of South Windsor, were both arrested last month in what prosecutors describe as a four-year scheme that put patients at risk.
Authorities say Quraishi hired Siddiqui to work at Silver Lane Medical Group in East Hartford even though Siddiqui lacked a medical license. For more than four years, Siddiqui allegedly gave injections, conducted physical exams and prescribed medications to patients.
Quraishi then submitted bills to Connecticut’s Medicaid program claiming he had performed the services himself, according to court documents filed in the case.
The alleged fraud continued from early 2021 until March of last year, when investigators say they uncovered the scheme.
Both men now face serious felony charges that could result in decades behind bars if convicted. The most severe charges carry potential 20-year prison sentences.
Quraishi also owns Stafford Medical Group, according to prosecutors.
State fraud investigators worked with federal health officials and local police to build the case against the two men.
