Houston appears to be gaining economic momentum as 2026 progresses, with more new projects appearing in an already busy year.
The income from all the projects is expected to bring a healthy financial boost to the Southeast Texas region.
There’s the FIFA World Cup, the World Baseball Classic and the NCAA Men’s Basketball South Regional, but that’s in addition to the year-long move of Chevron from its old base in California to Houston.
And we’re going to get One City Center at 1021 Main Street, developers are going to convert it to a 550 unit residential location.
And the Houston Texans are preparing to build a new headquarters near 99-The Grand Parkway at Bridgeland.
There’ll be new income for locals such as security companies, too, as preparations for the big international sports events get underway very soon.
“We’re waiting for countries to start sending representatives to Houston, and we can move further on those details as they arrive,” Houston Police Assistant Chief Megan Howard told City Council recently.
And Harris County Commissioner Tom Ramsey sums it up:
“These kinds of opportunities don’t come along every day.”
