Muirlands Middle School student dies after cardiac arrest

A 13-year-old Muirlands Middle School student died last week after he suffered sudden cardiac arrest while walking home from school.

The boy was just off campus after school Feb. 18 when he was stricken, according to an account from his family. CPR and other lifesaving measures were administered immediately, and emergency personnel arrived at the scene within minutes, but he later died.

Bird Rock tree vandalized twice

The Bird Rock Community Council is seeking information about two incidents of vandalism of a Canary Island pine tree adjacent to 5535 La Jolla Blvd., south of Forward Street.

The vandalism was first reported Feb. 13, and further damage to the same tree was seen two days later, according to the San Diego Police Department.

“This is very near the location of a similar, earlier destructive and very costly vandalism incident that resulted in the loss and removal of an adjacent pine tree and remains an active, ongoing SDPD report,” the Bird Rock council wrote in an email to the community. “The replacement costs exceed $30,000.”

Anyone with information about the incidents can email Bird Rock Maintenance Assessment District Manager Matt Mangano at admin@manganoconsulting.com or BRCC at info@BirdRockCC.org.
