Before the skies darkened, we caught families enjoying one last bit of sunshine on Saturday.

The Williamses wanted to squeeze in a fishing trip with their grandson.

“They’re biting. They’re out here,” said Bennie Williams.

Around White Rock Lake some were trying to make the lap before the next downpour.

“The weather was questionable and we were trying to time it,” said Ermenexildo Rosales.

On Tuesday, many people across DFW were caught off guard by flash flooding.

Rosales and his friend Joel Guerra were riding their electric skateboards around the lake when the heavy rains arrived.

“We got stuck under a bridge,” said Joel Guerra. “We were riding and then it just started pouring.”

Video captured by NBC 5 viewers showed pounding rain and fast-rising water along Northwest Highway on July 8. The flash flooding snarled evening traffic at intersections and caused concern across several areas of the city before the water receded.

This weekend, more rain is in the forecast.

In Fort Worth, city crews are closely watching flood-prone areas in hopes of preventing scenes from the past.

“We do have people on call. We do have people on standby. We’re always keeping an eye on the weather,” said Juan Cadena with the city of Fort Worth’s Stormwater Operations.

Cadena said crews check known trouble spots after heavy rains and again before forecasted rain to remove debris or anything that may be blocking culverts or pipes.

He said the stormwater operations team is on call through the flood watch and is ready to put up barricades or close roads if water rises.

He asks drivers to heed warnings.

“If you see water across the road, don’t risk it,” Cadena said.
