In the Lost Lands, a fantasy action movie based on a short story by George R. R. Martin, is becoming a massive streaming hit. The movie had an underwhelming theatrical run earlier this year.
FlixPatrol reports a massive +13 spike for In the Lost Lands on Hulu’s Top 10 Movies in the United States on July 13, pushing the film into first place. The film is also currently in the #2 spot on the overall charts for the streamer. Directed by Paul W. S. Anderson (Resident Evil), In the Lost Lands stars Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista as a witch and hunter who journey together into a dangerous land in search of a mysterious werewolf’s power.

The film hits theaters this weekend.
In the Lost Lands’ story originally appeared in Amazons II, an anthology of fantasy works that includes George R. R. Martin‘s short story along with others by various fantasy authors. Set in a world where the earth is now a dystopian wasteland, Gray Alys (Jovovich) is a powerful witch who teams up with Boyce (Bautista) to kill a werewolf named Sardor and take his power. Together, Gray Alys and Boyce navigate a wild landscape, facing off against enforcers, religious fanatics and deadly creatures.
In the Lost Lands was released in the United States by Vertical in March, where it had a limited and underwhelming box office run. The movie grossed $1.8 million in North America, with a worldwide total of $6.1 million against a massive $55 million budget.
Critical reception of the film was also largely negative among both critics and audience members. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a mere 24% approval rating from 70 critics’ reviews, and a more divisive score of 47% from over 250 verified audience members. The consensus of the film reads, “Squandering George R. R. Martin’s source material on an incomprehensible eyesore, Paul W. S. Anderson’s In the Lost Lands could use its own map out of the wilderness.”

Milla Jovovich Has More Sci-Fi Thrillers In The Works
In the Lost Lands may not have been a return to form for Milla Jovovich after her previously lauded roles in sci-fi classics like The Fifth Element or the popular Resident Evil movies, but the actress has numerous other similar projects on the way. Midnight, an action-thriller also starring Alexandra Shipp and Rosario Dawson, is now in post-production, as is World Breaker – a sci-fi thriller by Brad Anderson (The Machinist).
Jovovich will also star in Twilight of the Dead, the reported concluding installment of George A. Romero’s Living Dead zombie film series. Anderson is also set to direct this project, with Betty Gabriel (Get Out) confirmed to be joining Jovovich in the cast. None of the three movies have release dates confirmed at this time.
In the Lost Lands is now streaming on Hulu.
