The battle between local resident Steve Sutton and various members of the Scottsdale City Council has moved past the calling the police stage and moved on to getting lawyers involved.

Interim City Attorney Luis Santaella invited Sutton into his office March 3 to discuss Sutton’s comments during the city council’s Feb. 24 meeting in which he recited the Latin phrase “Carthago delenda est” while discussing a parking garage at First Street and Brown Avenue that he opposes.

The phrase, which literally translates into, “Carthage must be destroyed,” can mean opposition must be completely vanquished.
