Scottsdale City Engineer Alison Tymkiw’s claim at the Feb. 23 Budget Review Commission that the switch from a roundabout to a signalized intersection at Scottsdale Road and Dynamite Boulevard has not pushed the road project over budget maybe true, but it does not tell the whole story either.
It is not that the switch did not cost the city added expenses — it has to the tune of $4.14 million — it is just that the city used contingency funds and unused construction administration fees to pay for it. That does keep the project on budget, but leaves the city only $850,000 in reserves in case of emergencies or unforeseen costs.
