An officer of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office used the bumper of his patrol vehicle to help push a family and their broken-down SUV off the highway, out of the way of other drivers.Officer Thomas K. Waters was on patrol when he spotted a vehicle on the side of the road, dangerously close to traffic during a heavy rainstorm. After pulling over, he discovered a family with children in the back seat.Not only was their car not working, but neither were their cell phones. Concerned they would be hit by a vehicle traveling at highway speed in the rain, Waters used his bumper to push the SUV out of harm’s way. Waters stayed with the family until a tow truck and relatives arrived to help.The JSO advises that during this stormy week, it’s important to slow down on the roads, make sure your headlights are on and stay alert.
