Phoenix firefighter dies following cancer battle

The fire department said Firefighter Robert Oliver Jr. served the community for more than 30 years.

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Fire Department announced Monday that one of the agency’s long-time firefighters has died.

Robert Oliver Jr., who served the local community for 32 years, died this past week following a “hard fought” battle with occupational cancer, the fire department said.

“We extend our thoughts and support to his family, friends, and fellow firefighters during this difficult time,” the agency wrote in a statement.
