Washington Capitals fans can begin to make plans for the start of the 2025-26 NHL season.
The team revealed it will face the Boston Bruins on Oct. 8 at Capital One Arena to begin its home slate for the year.
“Starting 2025-26 off on a #Gr8 note,” the team wrote in its announcement post on X Wednesday. Naturally, captain Alex Ovechkin featured prominently in the graphic that accompanied it.
The Capitals will also take part in the New York Islanders’ home opener on October 11, returning to UBS Arena for the first time since Ovechkin broke the NHL goals record on April 6.
The rest of the Capitals’ 2025-26 schedule will be announced at 1 pm.
The Caps last faced Boston for their home opener to kick off the 2022-23 season, absorbing a 5-2 loss. They have failed to begin a campaign with a victory since an Ovi milestone in 2021.
Ovechkin scored twice in the Capitals’ home opener on Oct. 13, 2021 against the New York Rangers, tying and then passing Hockey Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne for fifth on the NHL’s all-time goal scoring list.
The Caps will also see the Bruins on Sept. 21 at TD Garden for the start of the preseason slate, then again on Oct. 2 at Capital One Arena.
