OPINION — In response to David Martin of Phoenix regarding BNSF, I can’t help but notice a troubling pattern: Many of the loudest voices supporting the industrialization of rural Arizona don’t actually live here.
Those of us who call places like Wittmann home chose this life intentionally. We value open space, quiet nights, clean air and the freedom to raise our families and animals without the constant hum of industry surrounding us.
Rural living isn’t an accident. It’s a choice rooted in preserving a way of life that is quickly disappearing. We ride horses at sunset, we know our neighbors and we enjoy a level of peace that simply cannot coexist with a massive intermodal hub.
