PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A young girl is hospitalized after she fell and hit her head while hiking a Phoenix mountain trail late Friday morning.
Around 10:45 a.m., Phoenix Fire Dept. technical rescue teams were called to the 40th Street Trailhead at the Phoenix Mountain Preserve for reports of an injured hiker. Crews soon found a woman and her 5-year-old daughter about 100 yards from the base of the mountain.

She told rescuers that the girl slipped and hit her head while they were hiking. Fire officials say the child was awake and “answering all questions appropriately.”
Firefighters brought the girl to the base of the mountain using a “Big Wheel” operation, which consists of a stretcher mounted to a single all-terrain wheel. She was then transferred to a waiting ambulance and taken to the hospital in stable condition.
