Police are investigating after possible human remains were found in a park in Long Beach during an Easter egg hunt.

Preliminary, though unconfirmed, information suggested that a small skull was found partially buried in the dirt at DeForest Park, located at 6255 De Forest Avenue, and may be that of an infant.

Footage shows a heavy presence of police, and at least one Long Beach Fire Department fire truck, at the scene.

A portion of the park had been cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape while investigators set up a white canopy, typically used in death investigations, in an area surrounded with dense brush.

Officials with the Long Beach Police Department would only confirm that officers were dispatched to the park regarding the discovery of possible human remains, and added that due to the circumstances, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office was requested at the scene.

Jessica Flores, a long-time Long Beach resident who spoke to KTLA, said this is the first time she’s ever heard of anything like that happening.

“It hurts because if it’s a child, that’s very sad,” she said. “I just hope they figure out who’s child this is.”

So far, no additional details have been released and the investigation remains ongoing.
