For decades, my family has enjoyed staycations at the Hotel Del, with early morning surfs in Imperial Beach followed by afternoons on the beach. After decades of rhetoric on the Tijuana sewage fiasco, nothing has been accomplished. IB Mayors Sergio Dedina and Paloma Aguirre received nothing but empty promises.

On Easter Saturday, we met two 12-year-old boys from Virginia who were unaware of the contamination. So much for boogie boarding! I can’t blame the Del for not putting up signs about its contaminated beaches. I just wish it wasn’t so. A few tourists entered the ocean likely to suffer its future consequences as have our Navy SEALs on Silver Strand. Millions of gallons of raw sewage enter the ocean every day. With California beaches delivering millions to our economy, you’d think someone in the federal or state government would take charge of this environmental disaster. No more rhetoric. Results, por favor!
