JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Just over 6 months ago, a truck carrying over 21 rhesus monkeys overturned on I-59 in Jasper County, Mississippi.
Five were killed at the scene, and three escaped. Thirteen remained in the truck and were taken to their original destination.
For several days, however, one monkey remained on the loose – his name; Forrest.
Forrest has been living at Popcorn Park Animal Refuge since December, an animal refuge in New Jersey, and has settled into his new home “extremely well,” the refuge said on Thursday.

With the arrival of spring, the organization said Forrest has been spending a great deal of time in his outdoor enclosure.
He enjoys relaxing on his hammock and engaging with enrichment toys.
“We are grateful to be able to provide Forrest with a fresh start and are fully committed to ensuring he receives expert, lifelong care,” they said.
