Beachgoers were urged to evacuate the Redondo Beach Pier due to police activity, the city said in a notice Sunday morning.

The alert was issued sometime around 10 a.m. due to what the city only described as “police activity.” Further details on the presence of officers were not disclosed.

As a result of the police presence, Catalina Avenue from Torrance Boulevard to Beryl Street was closed until further notice.

The closure comes as BeachLife Festival was scheduled to take place at the beach. The music festival said in a social media post that it was “given the go-ahead to safely open doors momentarily.”

It’s unclear what prompted the police activity at the pier.
