WHITE SETTLEMENT, Texas (CNN) – Police in Texas were forced to get creative, using jumper cables as a lifeline to save a mother from raging floodwaters.
Officers with the White Settlement Police Department responded last Saturday night to reports of a woman and three kids in a car that was trapped in rushing floodwaters.
Responding officers found the car trapped in a canal that runs toward a creek. Rescuers got the three kids to safety, but their mother was stuck in the front of the car, which was teetering toward the water.
“I need something to get wrapped around her,” an officer said in body camera footage.
So, a quick-thinking officer grabbed a pair of jumper cables to use as an improvised lifeline. The mother was told to anchor herself with the cables in case she was swept away.
Fire officials soon arrived and pulled the car back onto the road.
None of the four family members were harmed in the incident.
Since then, all city patrol vehicles have been ordered to be equipped with a water rescue throw bag.
