Woman’s body recovered from submerged vehicle in Jacksonville North Estates retention pond: JSO

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the vehicle was found behind the Dicks Sporting Goods next to the River City Marketplace.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The body of a woman was recovered from a submerged vehicle in a pond near the Jacksonville North Estates neighborhood, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday.

JSO says that at around 4 p.m., calls were received regarding the vehicle, which was located in a retention pond behind the Dick’s Sporting Goods near the River City Marketplace.

Upon the arrival of the JSO Dive Team, the agency says that the vehicle was retrieved and that “an elderly white female was found deceased inside of the vehicle.”

JSO says that this the 71st traffic fatality in Duval County in 2026.
