Sacramento-area leaders are preparing to reveal details about a bid for a Major League Baseball expansion team, sparking excitement among local baseball fans.On Friday, Barry Broome, CEO and president of the Greater Sacramento Economic Council, said a major announcement is coming. Sources told KCRA 3 he made the comments at the GSEC’s annual celebration, saying Sacramento will soon be revealing more about a bid for an MLB franchise. At a Sacramento River Cats game, fans expressed their enthusiasm for the sport and the possibility of another MLB team once the A’s leave. “I like the baseball where they throw, it’s so cool,” said Brielle Powe. Nicole Altamirano added, “And it’s supporting something local.” Will Glade said, “We just like coming here, spending time as a family, enjoying the being outside and watching some baseball.” Not all fans are focused solely on the game. Linda Mackey said, “Looking at the guys come on the players.” She added, “I like the local baseball team, and maybe some of our guys can move on to the, you know, move up to the next league if they’re good enough in their scouting them.” Tourism is a key reason fans are excited about the idea of another MLB franchise. “More jobs, more people will come out. It’s a lot of fun,” said Darron Powe. Diane Louise added, “People need gasoline. They need food. They may come and lodge here. They may have relatives. You know, there’s business, large companies.” Altamirano said, “Another destination for Sacramento. So you know, we have the soccer stadium. We have those kind of things. West Sacramento City Manager Aaron Laurel said the city’s long-standing plan for the site has centered on infrastructure improvements along 5th Street.
