Two young women who sustained gunshot wounds in a Montreal bar early Saturday were caught in the crossfire of a conflict between “a lot of people,” said Montreal police spokesperson Manuel Couture.

Emergency crews were called to the École Privée club on St-Laurent Blvd., near Milton St., at about 3 a.m. on Saturday. When police officers arrived, they found two women, age 19 and 25, with gunshot wounds to the lower body. Both were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The gunman, who fled before police arrived, was described as a tall man wearing dark clothing, said Montreal police spokesperson Raphaël Bergeron. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, he added. Investigators were to review surveillance footage from the area and interview witnesses, he said.

No arrests had been made by Sunday afternoon and the investigation continues, Couture said.
