No-one else was in the home at the time, and the fire was brought under control shortly after 10pm.
A crime scene has been set up, and an investigation is underway.
Police are urging anyone with information about the fire or who may have been in the area at the time to contact Orange Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
With nearly half of house fires occurring between May and September, Fire and Rescue NSW is urging residents to prioritise winter fire safety.
A spokesperson for Fire and Rescue NSW said a working smoke alarm in the home was critical.
“Smoke alarms should be tested monthly, cleaned regularly, and replaced every 10 years,” the spokesperson said.
“Most importantly, every household should have a clear and practised home evacuation plan.”
