Sporting Kansas City returns home midweek to take on the LA Galaxy at Sporting Park on Wednesday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and will be available to stream on Apple TV, while the game will also be broadcast locally on the radio via Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM. Tickets are available via SeatGeek.com.

1. TRYING TO REBOUND WITH QUICK TURNAROUND

Sporting Kansas City will aim to rebound from Saturday’s heavy defeat against the Portland Timbers at Providence Park with a quick turnaround when the team hosts the LA Galaxy at Sporting Park on Wednesday night with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. CT.

After a brief respite with the 1-1 draw against Seattle on May 2, the team suffered the sixth defeat in their last seven MLS matches on Saturday in Portland. The match marked the first time in club history that the team had conceded four goals in the first half of a match, while the six-goal margin of defeat is tied for the second largest in team history.

With two games this week, Sporting has an immediate chance to bounce back by first taking on the Galaxy – the victims of Sporting’s lone win this season – at Sporting Park on Wednesday night before traveling to take on Austin FC at Q2 Stadium on Saturday.

The team will then host Red Bull New York at Sporting Park in the final match heading into the World Cup break on May 23, before returning to MLS action on July 16 at archrivals St. Louis.

2. LOOKING TO DO THE DOUBLE OVER THE GALAXY

Sporting Kansas City returns home midweek to take on the LA Galaxy at Sporting Park on Wednesday night looking to do the double over the Californians for the first time since 2021.

Sporting sole win of the campaign came against the Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park on March 14, 2026. After Dejan Joveljic had opened the scoring against his former side, Lasse Berg Johnsen added a second on his club debut to put the result out-of-sight before Marco Reus pulled a goal back late for the hosts.

The two sides last met at Sporting Park just over a year ago with SKC winning one of the most remarkable games in MLS history 1-0 on May 4, 2025. Daniel Salloi’s low cross was turned into his own net by Maya Yoshida for the only goal of the game early on and Sporting held on to claim all three points despite not taking a shot throughout the game – the first time in MLS history a team had won a game without a shot.

All-time, Sporting narrowly trails the Galaxy 28-29-18 in the regular-season series, including a 19-10-9 mark at home. Sporting has lost just three of their last 11 matches against LA, going 5-3-3 since the start of 2021.

3. JOVELJIC SET TO FACE FORMER TEAM

Sporting Kansas City striker Dejan Joveljic is set to face off against his former club the LA Galaxy this Wednesday when the two sides face off at Sporting Park – the fourth time he has faced LA since joining Sporting ahead of the 2025 season in the first-ever cash-for-player trade in MLS history.

Joveljic, donning the captain’s armband this season, leads the team with five goals and two assists – playing a role in seven of the team’s eight goals. The Serbian frontman has scored a pair of goals against the Galaxy since departing the club – both coming at Dignity Health Sports Park in the 4-1 loss on Sept. 27, 2025 and the 2-1 victory on March 14, 2026.

After leading the team with 18 goals in 2025, Joveljic now has 23 goals in 43 regular season games and his 0.53 goals per game average is the best in club history among players with a minimum of 15 goals.

A host of players and coaches in Wednesday’s matchup will be taking on their former sides: Sporting’s Joveljic, John Pulskamp and Dominic Kinnear along with the Galaxy’s Erik Thommy, Chris Rindov and Kevin Hartman.

4. BASSONG MAKES RETURN FROM INJURY

Sporting Kansas City defender Zorhan Bassong made a long-anticipated return from injury during Saturday night’s loss in Portland, playing the final 30 minutes of the match after replacing Lasse Berg Johnsen in the midfield.

Bassong missed the vast majority of the opening portion of the season – save for a brief cameo at Real Salt Lake on April 4, 2026 – due to a hamstring injury sustained with the Canadian National Team during the team’s January camp.

Capable of playing both left back and central midfield, Bassong has proven to be a reliable and versatile member of the squad since joining the club ahead of the 2024 season and recently signed a new contract through the 2028-29 season with a pair of club options.

The fourth longest-tenured player on the team, Bassong has made 53 appearances across all competitions and tallied one and four assists. The World Cup hopeful played an instrumental role in the club’s run to the 2024 U.S. Open Cup Final and will be hoping that his return from injury serves as a catalyst for an upturn in form for Sporting.

5. CONCERT SERIES AT SPORTING PARK

With anticipation continuing to build for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Kansas City, Sporting Kansas City announced the lineup of live entertainment for Soccer Capital Summer at Sporting Park in June and July featuring free concerts, high-energy DJs and local performing artists.

With nearly 20 million monthly listeners on Spotify, gymclassheroes. reshaped alternative hip-hop with genre-defying hits like “Cupid’s Chokehold” (3x Platinum) and “Stereo Hearts” (5x Platinum).

Mize will also play an acoustic set after Sporting KC’s next home match against the LA Galaxy on Wednesday, May 13 at Sporting Park in a postgame concert for ticket holders.

Coco & Breezy will cap off the festivities in conjunction with the highly anticipated World Cup final on July 19. Coco & Breezy are globally recognized DJs known for a soulful, high-energy house sound that reflects their Afro-Latino heritage and their mantra, Free Your Soul.
