PHOENIX — Copper Star Coffee, located in the Melrose District of Phoenix, was recently recognized by U.S. Rep. Yassamin Ansari for their 20th anniversary.

Ansari wrote a statement for the Congressional Record about the local coffee shop that recognized their service in the community.
“I was proud to visit Copper Star Coffee and present this recognition in person to celebrate their 20th anniversary and to thank their founders, staff, and supporters for two decades of service, innovation, and community impact in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District,” Ansari said.
The statement Ansari wrote and presented to the business on Friday delves into Copper Star Coffee’s unique history.
Owners Bill and Ginger Sandweg founded the cafe in 2006 in what was once an old gas station on 7th Avenue in central Phoenix.
Ansari mentions the cafe’s recognition as a City of Phoenix Green Business Leader and their charitable work in the community. She also mentions that they pay their workers a livable wage and work hard to maintain a healthy workplace.
“Whether through its welcoming atmosphere, support of local vendors, or the simple act of bringing people together over coffee, it has helped strengthen the fabric of Phoenix,” Ansari said.
