PHOENIX — The Salvation Army adding another wing to its Phoenix shelter for families experiencing homelessness.
City officials gathered for a ceremony on Tuesday to dedicate the future site of a third wing for the Salvation Army’s family shelter near 24th and Van Buren streets.
The expansion will add 12 rooms to the shelter, increasing its total number of beds to 216. The shelter additionally offers social services and assistance in obtaining employment.

The $8-million project to develop the 9,356-square-foot building is being funded through HOME American Rescue Plan grant money from the City of Phoenix.
“Unfortunately, we are seeing a rise in families experiencing homelessness and we want to make sure they have a safe place to stay,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said.
The Salvation Army said 85% of the residents who entered its family shelter in 2025 later moved into stable housing.
