Ethan Salas is back in MLB.com’s top-100.
He keeps homering. Of course, he’s back.
The 19-year-old catcher hit his sixth home run on Tuesday in Double-A San Antonio’s 8-3 win over visiting Wichita.
The home run was Salas’ only hit in five at-bats and it drove in two runs, pushing his RBI total to 20 through 29 games.
The home run was also Salas’ sixth since hitting his first home run on April 24. He missed all but 10 games last year with a back injury and didn’t get back into game action until spring training.
Salas is hitting .314/.388/.559 to start his third trip through the Texas League. Because he struggled at high Single-A Fort Wayne as one of the youngest players in the Midwest League in 2024 (.599 OPS) and missed most of last year, Salas dropped out of the top-100 at the start of the year for the first time since signing for $5.6 million as the top prospect in the 2023 international class.
After a strong start to a healthy season, Salas is up to No. 94 in MLB.com’s top-100.
First baseman Romeo Sanabria (.649 OPS) went 2-for-3 with his third homer, a double and three RBIs.
Third baseman Luis Verdugo (.682 OPS) and center fielder Braedon Karpathios (.679 OPS) both hit their second homers of the season.
Right-hander Miguel Mendez (3.24 ERA) returned from a neck strain with two strikeouts over two scoreless innings in the start.
Mendez is ranked No. 3 among Padres prospects, behind left-hander Kruz Schoolcraft and Salas.
