Following the announcement of the opening of the first section of the D Line extension (and with major projects moving forward, including the Vermont Ave BRT and the Sepulveda Corridor subway),  it’s clear that 2026 is shaping up to be a turning point for public transit in Los Angeles. The system continues to evolve and modernize ahead of the 2028 Olympics.

Beyond these infrastructure projects, other changes are also on the horizon, this time in digital form. L.A. Metro has officially launched its new trip-planning app, allowing riders to map out the best route for their daily commute using official, real-time information directly from Metro, with no third-party apps involved.

Users can find the best routes across bus and rail networks, choose the fastest option, or plan trips in advance. The app also shows live bus and train locations so riders know exactly when their ride will arrive.

In addition, it provides service alerts on delays, disruptions, and schedule changes before departure, along with quick access to nearby bus and train departures.

Step-by-step navigation guides users through their journey to avoid missing stops, while saved favorites make it easier to reuse frequent trips and stations for faster daily planning.

According to transit advocate and social media user Kenny Uong, the app has been available to download on the App Store for iPhone and iPad since Tuesday, May 12. The service is offered in English and 40 additional languages and, so far, has received five-star ratings from users.
