This month, Texans will cast their votes in primary runoff elections, deciding who will appear on the ballot for the November general election. Early voting begins Monday and continues through May 22. Election day is May 26.
In the runoff election for Texas’ 33rd Congressional District, voters must choose between Patrick David Gillespie and John Sims. We recommend Sims.
In an interview earlier this year, Sims articulated thoughtful policy ideas and demonstrated he would not lead along party lines alone, but with his community and conscience in mind.
Gillespie, who did not participate in a candidate interview or fill out the Voter Guide, offers weak and vague ideas on his campaign website. He ran unsuccessfully for this seat in 2022 and 2024.
We would be remiss not to mention that a Democratic candidate is very likely to win this district in November because of extreme gerrymandering of Texas congressional districts.
