The Fort Worth Police Department celebrated National Police Week by honoring 37 police officers for outstanding service, dedication, and hard work, as they received promotions.

The department noted the promotions in a Friday morning social media post.

According to the post, two officers were promoted to assistant chief, two were promoted to deputy chief, three were promoted to commander, three officers were promoted to captain, seven were promoted to lieutenant, eight were promoted to sergeant, and 11 were promoted to detective or corporal.

“Congratulations to all 37 of you on reaching this incredible milestone in your law enforcement careers,” the post reads. “Our department and our city are proud to have you.”

“As law enforcement officers, we understand that this profession asks much from us,” said Fort Worth Police Chief Eddie Garcia. “But despite the dangers, this calling still matters. And it matters because what we do still matters.”

He continued, “We stand between order and chaos. We protect the vulnerable. We confront violence. We run towards danger when others run away from it. And none of that can happen effectively without strong leadership.”

On May 15, FWPD also recognized National Peace Officer’s Memorial Day, which is a day used to honor the courage of men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community.

“We remember and commemorate their dedication, bravery, and steadfast commitment to protecting others,” the post reads. “May their legacy live on through the officers who continue to serve, sacrifice, and protect each and every day.”
