A family was able to escape a fire at their home on Friday but is now displaced, according to crews with the Philadelphia Fire Department.

The fire broke out sometime after 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 15 along Telfair Road in Northeast Philadelphia, officials said.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, there was light smoke coming from the basement of the home which is where officials believe this is where the fire started.

The fire then worked its way up to the first floor of the house before creating a hole and continuing to the top floor, officials said.

The family was able to escape the blaze, but firefighters said there may have been dogs inside who were killed in the fire.

Once crews got into the basement, they found oxygen tanks, firefighters said. Officials think the fire started because of an explosion after a tank burst.

Hoarding conditions in the basement of the house made it difficult for firefighters to put out the flames, according to officials.

One family has been displaced because of the damage left behind after the fire, officials said.

SkyForce10 was over the scene where several firefighters could be seen tackling the blaze.

The house was damaged with black soot on the outside.
