Police officers shot a man who they say charged at them while armed with a knife in the Boyle Heights area overnight, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Officers were called to the 3000 block of Glenn Avenue at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. Callers reported that a man armed with a knife attacked someone in the apartment complex.
LAPD said officers found the man in front of the home and tried to de-escalate the situation, but the man refused orders to drop the knife. He then charged at the officers, prompting officers to respond by opening fire, according to police.
The man was struck by a 40 mm foam round then was treated at the scene until paramedics arrived. The man, whose name was not released, was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. His knife was recovered at the scene.
Police did not specify what charges the man may face. They also did not specify details on the person who was assaulted by the man, such as the severity of their injuries or a possible motive for the alleged attack.
